Introduction

Located just north of Houston in the beautiful Spring area, Trammell Crow Residential’s newest luxury apartment complex offers stylish homes and public areas that are attracting residents that want to be close to downtown yet reside minutes away from nature. With more than 352 apartments, Alexan Exchange’s upscale amenities include a clubroom featuring an oversized double-sided fireplace, televisions, game tables, and a coffee bar. Additionally, the space also offers a work lounge, two resort-style pools with tanning ledges and private cabanas; and a courtyard with a kitchen, outdoor fireplace, and grilling stations.

The design team was commissioned to create an urban, contemporary feel throughout the complex, with a special focus on the facility’s clubroom as a unique gathering area for the residents’ community. The first-floor space provides a great atmosphere for for watching sports on the television and participating in a challenging game of poker or pool. With the focal point of an oversized double-sided fireplace, the clubroom offers all the details of modern comfort and relaxed, upscale living.

The  Story

To achieve the ideal aesthetic for the clubroom, the design team turned to Crossville Porcelain Tile Panels by Laminam for a surfacing of the stunning double-sided fireplace surround. The goal was to identify a sleek, elegant material with character—something with a distinct, metal feel that would stand out yet be durable. The team chose Crossville’s Oxide tile panels featuring an industrial aesthetic with a shimmery, metallic-like finish—a perfect match for the design intent. Also, since the tile panels are so generously proportioned (they measure in feet instead of inches), the installation required minimal grout joints; the overall look offers nearly uninterrupted style and a sleek final appearance that requires minimal maintenance—even in a busy, high traffic area.
