Introduction

With direct proximity to McCormick Place—the nation’s largest convention center, Hyatt McCormick is ceaselessly busy with swarms of travelers year-round. With so much activity, it proved a major undertaking to renovate this Hyatt property’s main restaurant, bar, and fast casual areas. The expansive spaces serve as nonstop gathering hubs for the highly trafficked hospitality facility. All updates needed to be top-notch in respect to lasting style, performance, cleanability, and maintenance, as well as in installation efficiencies.

The  Story

The flooring in these areas represents vast amounts of surface area, and specification of materials proved to be pivotal to achieving the overall look and technical performance required. The interior design team of The Gettys Group turned to Crossville for innovative tile solutions to answer all aspects this important project demanded.

Upon consideration of a wide range of alternatives, the team ultimately focused the majority of its flooring specifications on Crossville Porcelain Tile Panels by Laminam in the Oxide collection. The selection of porcelain panels for the floors was a bold yet ideal move. The panels’ large outer dimensions (1m x 3m) cover large swaths of surface area, and, with a lean profile of just 5+mm, the material can be easily cut to create shapes for custom patterns. Most importantly, the panels provided the durability and ease of maintenance that are essential for any busy hospitality and restaurant areas.

The project team rallied to make the most of the panel’s design versatility. The floor features panels in three of Oxide’s tonal colors, with the panels waterjet cut into unique shapes and configured to create custom patterns. The mix of subtle colors along with adventurous sizes, shapes, and patterns adds interest to the spaces and helps define functional areas without being visually overwhelming.

Additionally, designers specified Crossville’s SpeakEasy wood-look tile collection to grace the floors in a section of the dining area with a buffet line and ample room for seating. SpeakEasy’s plank-length tiles replicate wood’s natural grained appearance, yet the superior porcelain tile body is sure to withstand moisture and foot traffic much more heartily than true wood ever could.

Conclusion

With Crossville’s bold, innovative solutions, the flooring throughout Hyatt McCormick’s prominent restaurant and gathering areas is beautiful, durable, and future-ready to welcome countless guests who expect the only the best.
